What is gearbox remapping?
Gearbox remapping (also known as transmission tuning or TCU tuning) is the process of precisely reprogramming your cars automatic gearbox software to improve on the factory settings.
An Optimal Automotive gearbox tune works well on a standard car, but is the perfect pairing to our stage 1 or stage 2 remaps - providing a massive improvement in performance and driveability.

Gearbox remapping FAQs
Is gearbox remapping safe for my vehicle?
Yes. Our gearbox remaps always respect hardware capabilities and manufacturer-tolerances. However we do advise your gearbox and/or four-wheel drive system is fully serviced and maintained and free of any faults before commencing tuning. Once remapped, we do not advocate excessive use of launch control systems.
Will gearbox remapping make my vehicle faster?
Yes, when paired with our engine remaps. Remapping a gearbox allows us to safely raise the in-gear torque limiters, to ensure the full benefit of your engine tune gets to the wheels.
Will a gearbox remap void my warranty?
Most vehicles we tune are outside of manufacturer warranty (3+ years old). If your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, or aftermarket warranty, consult your provider beforehand.
Will a gearbox remap impact my MOT?
No. A gearbox remap is fully road-legal, and your MOT will be unaffected.
Is it essential to get a gearbox remap?
If you choose an Optimal Automotive ECU remap to improve your engine performance, we strongly suggest a gearbox remap to maximise the overall driving experience. However, it is not essential to remap your gearbox.
