EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR REMAPPING APPOINTMENT

Thank you for choosing Optimal Automotive to carry out your engine remap. Please read this before your appointment, so you come fully prepared.

What we do during your remap

We will begin the appointment with a Pre-Tuning Health Check, consisting of a test drive, a visual inspection and a thorough diagnostic test. We have fully comprehensive motor trade insurance and £1m of public liability insurance, so rest assured your vehicle is covered at all times.

Where road conditions allow, we will conduct some on-road datalogging to monitor your engine's sensors, to further aid our understanding of its condition.

Where road conditions allow, we will also record a 30-70mph and 50-70mph time using our GPS timing tools, before and after the remap.

Where road conditions allow, we may record baseline dyno results and post-tuning dyno results to help confirm your vehicle's health, current tuning status and results achieved on the day. If you wish to have an electronic copy of the dyno result, this is available as a £50 add-on. For safety reasons, dyno testing is usually conducted in third gear - meaning dyno results will vary from a chassis dyno (rolling road) where testing is usually conduted in 4th or 5th gear. This does not mean your results are inaccurate or the tuning is at fault.

We will provide a bespoke Vehicle Condition Report and a link to access the diagnostic test results from our scan tools.

If we are satisfied your car is suitable to be remapped, we will recalibrate the ECU (and TCU where purchased), complete some more diagnostics, then take a final test drive.

The process will take between 2-4 hours to complete, depending on which options you have purchased.

Ahead of the appointment

Please ensure your vehicle is roadworthy, especially tyre wear and tyre pressure. We need to test your vehicle at high speeds, and so for our safety, any suspension or chassis faults cannot be permitted.

Any engine or transmission servicing requirements should be completed before the appointment, or your vehicle may experience issues that negatively affect the gains.

Here is a reminder of our terms and conditions, which you accepted during the booking process.

Requirements on the day

We suggest 1/4 tank of fuel for test driving, which is an adequate amount, but also ideal if we need to add a fuel additive to mitigate issues on the day (charged extra). We recommend Premium brand E5 petrol, such as Shell V Power, Tesco Momentum or BP Ultimate. If you have a higher powered petrol turbo car (such as an Audi S3) filled with regular E10 petrol, it is commonplace to see issues after remapping that might mean we need to adjust the tune to compensate, and you may consequently get lower gains. For higher performance turbo-diesel vehicles (such as BMW 335d), we recommend BP Ultimate Diesel.

Please be ready to pay the remaining balance of your invoice to release the car. Payment is due on job completion.
